Robertson may have the size and could be asked to be more of a stay at home defenseman, however lets not ignore the fact that in his last 2 seasons with the Oil Kings he played 82 games, had 17 goals 52 assists (69 points). He might have more offense in his game than youre giving him credit for.

I personally want to see a pairing of Robertson / Schneider, I think they could be an arse kicking combo for a long time.

Jan, I don’t think Motte would have come here for 1.35. He had no offers from other teams. I loved him here, but I think he was holding the rangers up with his salary request.

ultimately I think that's what we'd all want, but Zac Jones is a feisty little guy who wants this badly

gonna be very interesting to see how that one plays out

I agree. And as I said earlier, we shouldn't waste our time worrying over whether we missed out on a guy that is maybe 10% better than what we have for our 4th line. Assuming the kids stay on a positive trajectory, we have one of the most complete rosters in the league. Despite what the NY haters what to believe.

Hey, if it keeps Hajek and Tinordi in Hartford keep them both! Injury insurance for the right side and they can split the games enough that no one is spending too much time in the press box at a stretch. At least until someone proves he deserves it over the other.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Six days before the Rangers open training camp, general manager Chris Drury said Thursday that he hopes second-year defenseman Nils Lundkvist will report, but he doesn’t know if he will.

“I don't have a definitive answer as to what his plans are right now,’’ Drury said during an informal chat with beat reporters at the Rangers’ practice facility on the second day of rookie camp. “But all the players that we have under contract, we hope they come to camp. And we certainly hope he's here next week.’’

But he will not report, according to his agent, Claude Lemieux.

Lemieux said in a text message to Newsday on Thursday that Lundkvist remains in Sweden, waiting for the Rangers to trade him. Lemieux said Lundkvist requested the trade in January after the team sent him down to AHL Hartford.

The New York Post first reported Lundkvist had requested a trade and did not plan on reporting to camp. Drury on Thursday declined to confirm Lundkvist’s trade request and would not say if he was attempting to trade him.

Lundkvist, 22, was the third of three first-round draft picks by the Rangers in 2018 (Vitali Kravtsov and K’Andre Miller were the others). He signed a three-year, entry level contract with the team last summer after scoring 14 goals with 18 assists in 52 games for Lulea, his Swedish Hockey League team. That was enough to earn him the Salming Trophy, awarded to the best Swedish-born defenseman in the SHL.

The 5-11, 187-pound, righthander started last season as the right defenseman on the Rangers’ third defense pair, but after 25 games in which he had one goal and three assists, Lundkvist was demoted to Hartford and replaced by 2020 first-round pick Braden Schneider.

Schneider scored his first NHL goal in his debut in San Jose against the Sharks, and played well enough to take ownership of the third-pair, right defense spot. He scored two goals with nine assists in 43 games and added three assists while playing in all 20 of the Rangers’ playoff games.

With Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba and Schneider ahead of him on the right defense depth chart, there didn't seem to be a spot for Lundkvist on the Rangers this season, unless he could switch to the left side, and compete for the spot opened up when Drury traded Patrik Nemeth to Arizona over the summer.

Notes & quotes: The Rangers' rookies play the Flyers' rookies in two scrimmages Friday and Saturday in Allentown, Pa. Rangers forward Matt Rempe, 20, thinks he might be a marked man in the scrimmages after he landed a big hit in the first minute of the first scrimmage between the teams last year and then fought Flyers forward Wade Allison. “I don't know how many guys are there from last year, but I bet they'll remember me,’’ the 6-8, 240-pound Rempe said. “I'm just going to go do the same thing I did (last year), play hard and physical and try to score some goals.’’

I am not sure about a Robertson/Schneider pair.
It literally can go both ways in an argument. Do you balance as hard-nose defensive minded D-man with a more puck moving D-man, or do you go big or go home with size and toughness? Hard call. (this not to take away that Schneider can move the puck well).

I agree with Tony. Tyler signed with OTT. Move on. The Rangers have plenty of options right now and young bucks to fill the role.

Lundkvist: Forget his name for now. Wasn't going to make it with that attitude even if he didn't hold out. Jones has his head screwed on right with his approach. I like it.

That said..season is getting closer boys. I am getting excited.

I was recapping what happened the last few days, so I felt it warranted inclusion. He quite possibly would not have signed at that amount, though that doesn’t mean I can’t wish that he had. As noted, he isn’t here, so they and we move on with the squad currently in place

To be completely honest, I could see Miller sliding up to play with Fox and be the permanent fixture there sooner rather than later.

That leaves Lindgren in a difficult spot because even though he is a real solid defensemen and absolute warrior, without Fox his value takes a significant hit. I could see him falling down the depth chart. It's not too far fetched to see:

Fox- Miller
Trouba- Jones
Schneider - Lindgren/Robertson

god forbid MSG does anything w/ it. they'd rather run a betting show that probably 3 people are watching at any given time.

From Bill Meltzer’s blog:
There is no television or stream for tonight's game. However, there will be a radio broadcast with Lehigh Valley Phantoms' play-by-play announcer Bob Rotruck on the mic: 1470-WSAN (iheartradio app) Phantoms 365 app. A direct audio link can be found in his blog

I know he is really young and it was his first season in NA.. but I was pretty underwhelmed with his play in the games he got before being sent down

Let him sit for the year, he will be back like VK

Fair enough. Wasn't directed at any one person. Just my belief that we can be at least as good as we would've been with Motte with the personnel we have here at this time.

But, we still won't have a spot for him. I have no problem with him wanting out. He's waited and worked for 3 years and he is unlikely to play here consistently. But, holding out doesn't optimize the situation for any party involved.

Totally.
I was looking forward to hopefully finding a stream of the game on the Firestick, but I guess not. Blue Jays again, it seems!

Because people get so invested in prospects, talk them up so hard, that when it doesnt work out they dont know how to handle it. I wouldnt be surprised if some of them have Nils jerseys.

Rather than being thankful that we may have found a defenseman better than Nils, theyre gonna moan that we let that go.
